Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna del Mandorlo, Elvio Cogno 2020

Elvio Cogno is one of the recognised names in the Italian wine market. He crafts his wines from the 11 hectares of vineyards that the company owns in Novello. Novello, a province in Cuneo, is a beautiful locale surrounded by hills, oceans, greenery and natural extravaganza all around. Recently, this amazing site was regarded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The dolcetto grapes used to make Elvio Cogno Dolcetto D'Alba Vigna del Mandorlo are grown in 2.5 hectares of vineyards planted on limestone-rich soils at an altitude of 380 metres above sea level. The vines are cultivated without forcing the natural rhythm of growth and in a way that protects the balance of the terroir. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.

Decanter magazine describes the wine:

'Agreeably strict tannins help rein in the dark, fleshy fruits here; bramble and black cherry with liquorice and violets. Finishes dry and precise. A very drinkable, well-made Dolcetto – buttoned up and tucked in.'

I love dolcetto for its versatility. It is brilliant with or without food, and is a wine that doesn't divide opinion very much. People just love it for all its juicy friendliness.
