Domaine Gressler Brandhof Pinot Gris 2019

Rémy Gresser's domaine is situated in Andlau, halfway between Strabourg and Colmar in Alsace. Andlau has probably the most complex and varied geology of all the Alsace villages (119 of them) and the wines from here, with their organic and biodynamic credentials, do not disappoint in terms of expression of terroir, or elegance, aromatic richness and bang on technicals.

The Pinot Gris is a brilliant wine for food and stands out as a best in class. That's probably why it features so highly on the wine list at Pétrus, the Goring Hotel, Pied à Terre, City Social, 67 Pall Mall and Medlar. What a list.

I loved Jancis Robinson's description from just April 2023:

'White flowers, chalk and lime peel dipped in icing sugar. Ductile acidity: plenty of give and stretch but far from soft or formless; plenty of flexibility, pressing flowers into the clean, loose-weave, white-starched linen-and-peach folds of the wine.'
