Quinta da Boa Esperança, Atlântico Rosé 2021

Some of you know the wines of Artur Gamas as you have hoovered up the Sauvignon Blanc that I have had on Whitfield Wines since the beginning. The estate is to the south of Lisbon near the surfing mecca Ericeira.

His rosé is very special. Made from the grapes - Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Castelaõ - the ABV is 12.7% so its perfect for hot days. It’s a complex and textural rosé. Crisp berry fruits with a juicy, singular acidity and a healthy lick of Atlantic salinity.

The wine is created from a special parcel of vineyards facing the ocean where the northwesterly winds bring minerality and freshness. The exposure to this sea air also helps defend against diseases, resulting in routinely excellent quality fruit. 2020 was the first year they decided to vinify this parcel separately to capture the unique essence of the terroir and the 2021s are even better than that first year.

Has swept the board for Rosé prizes in Portugal so grab this before it sells out in the UK.  A restaurant wine of course, on several of Mitch Tonks's restaurants in the South West as one example.
