THE MOST DELICIOUS ROSÉ IN TOWN

Rosé is big business globally. In 2023, the global rosé wine market was valued at £2.4 billion and is projected to reach £3.9 billion by 2032. Rosé has also long carried an air of frivolity. Its pale hue and ‘seasonality’ have meant ‘wine people’ have for the longest time called it unserious, for poolside at best, cruelly nicknamed at worst.

Seemingly insatiable demand for rosé has resulted in some huge successes, from collaborations between wine and celebrities like Kylie Minogue (who has the best-selling rosé priced over £7 in the UK at one end of the market), to premium, glitzy brand names like Whispering Angel, neither angelic, nor whispering, and the delicious Miraval, forever tainted by ‘conscious uncoupling’ Hollywood style.

Thankfully, demand has also meant modern rosé production has shifted beyond secondary by-products and casual releases. Top producers now approach rosé with the same rigor they bring to red or white wines. Provencal blends showcasing saline finesse are the order of the day of course.

So what to do? Flaming June is well and truly here and it’s time to stock up. Look no further.

At Whitfield Wines, over the last few summers we have toyed with expanding our choice of rosé but have stayed focused, overwhelmed annually by demand for our favourite, Domaine de Triennes.

Domaine de Triennes was founded in 1989 by two superstars of Burgundy, Jacques Seyss of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Proper credentials, so no wonder this wine is the industry’s quiet crush and is listed at restaurants from Bentley’s to Brigadiers, Dinings to Dorian, Café François to Noble Rot. It is the archetypal ‘Restaurant Wine at Home’ and incredibly value at less that £15 a bottle. It comes in magnums and double magnums too.

We have two other wonderful Rosé wines as well. Venetian glamour from Monte del Frà, on the list by the glass at Arlington, and rose from Sami Ghosn at Massaya in Lebanon, the ultimate food rosé and made famous by Andrew Edmunds in Soho.

Enjoy the wines,
Ben
