Olivar was named after the 18th century vineyard of the Cesconi family, blending the words ‘Olive’ and ‘Vines’ symbolising their relationship and presence on these grounds. This wine has the sort of complexity people now come to expect of Cesconi. Another River Café stalwart, Olivar is serious, technical and currently one of the top wines coming out of this part of Northern Italy. Not an easy wine to get hold of, and stands up as one of the very high end whites in this northerly region, Cesconi is now firmly established as one of the top Trentino wine producers farmed organically and bio-dynamically.

A light gold wine expressing layered aromas of ripe stone fruit such as apricot and peach with notes of white flowers, the nose and palate show really intense smoky citrus fruit with a green tang, pronounced pear drop, apricot and peach. There’s a lot of acidity and minerality to balance the intense flavours, and the oak is incredibly subtle. It’s very clean, refreshing and very different. A fresh, citrus character in the mouth is rounded out by the vanilla notes from the gentle oak ageing and complemented by a touch of minerality. The long finish is floral and fragrant.

A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Blanc, this is a wonderfully versatile wine with food, matching with seafood, light pasta dishes, vegetable dishes, white meats, and creamy dishes.

For generations, the Cesconi family have been involved in agriculture; however, it wasn’t until 1966 a winery was officially established by the visionary Franco Cesconi. The family’s vineyards are divided between the Pressano Hills and the Lake Valley, near Lake Garda. Over the years, the winery expanded and they began experimenting with grape varieties and winemaking techniques, diversifying their portfolio of wines. Today, the winery is led by Franco’s son, Marco Cesconi.
