This is the ultimate food wine — think Tuscany!
The Rosso di Montalcino comes from vines planted in 2011 and is aged for one year in 30hl Slavonian oak barrels. Annual production is between 12,000 and 14,000 bottles, so fairly small. A younger sibling of the Brunello di Montalcino — approachable and calls for earlier drinking.
The Rosso di Montalcino is aged for one year in 30hl Slavonian oak botte. Annual production is between 12,000 and 14,000 bottles, so fairly small.
An absolute standout wine and such good value.
This Rosso di Montalcino is elegant, with aromas of black, blue and purple fruit with hints of violets and is very well structured with soft tannins on the palate. It has a very delicate colour and style; though, it stands up to ragù! The Rosso brings out the best in rich pasta dishes, stews, and mushroom sauces. Pair it with lamb (roasted or stewed), risottos with tons of parmesan, and tomato-based sauces.
The Cortonesi family has long been involved in agriculture, cultivating grapes and olives, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that they shifted their focus to winemaking under the family name. A key milestone was the acquisition of the La Mannella vineyard, located on the northern slopes of Montalcino, a region renowned for producing aromatic Sangiovese grapes. Since then, the family has been dedicated to the production of Brunello di Montalcino. In the late 1990s, Tommaso Cortonesi took over operations, concentrating on producing higher-quality Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino while expanding the estate with additional vineyards across Montalcino.
