This has been a consistent favourite amongst my customers and lovers of Pinot Noir. I discovered Bruno Sorg during my time at Brasserie Zédel, as it is the perfect expression of those wonderful bright red fruit wines so prevalent in the brasseries of Alsace. I urge you to try this; it is refreshing and delicate, and perfect with roast chicken! It is pale in colour and unlike more full-bodied reds, its texture is really soft and gentle. Very tough not to open a second bottle, so get a case!
Low yielding, hand picked fruit and careful vinification in temperature controlled conditions gives an elegant and restrained Pinot Noir. My tasting notes say this is lighter in body than Loire Pinot, with a gentle red fruit presence. Red cherries, strawberries and red currants dominate, and although the wine is light, it packs some punch with intensity of flavour, with a mineral-tinged finish to tantalise.
Pinot Noirs pair beautifully with roasted poultry, grilled salmon or tuna, soft French cheeses, and savoury mushroom-based dishes.
Regularly receiving much acclaim from international wine critics and publications for their expression of the Alsace terroir, the domaine was established in 1965 by Bruno Sorg and his wife Renée, with vineyards located around the villages of Eguisheim and Voegtlinshoffen; two of Alsace’s prized wine-growing areas. Following the passing of Bruno in 2006, his son, François Sorg and his wife, Elisabeth, continue to manage the domaine.
