Domaine de la Madone Fleurie is a sensational example of the Gamay grape with crunchy red fruit, cherry and wild strawberry aromas. It is fresh, soft and has a sappy quality that injects life and vibrancy into the wine but remains velvety smooth on the finish. It is an expressive wine with a fine structure that is pure heaven to drink and a fantastic wine to partner almost anything.
A Whitfield Wines house wine at its best, it is “A Friendly Fleurie” says the producer, in their notes. I am excited about the price I can offer this wine, so please do stock up.
This is very delicate on the nose, but delivers great intensity, and a full, rounded mouthfeel. Floral notes, gentle blueberry fruit and underlying salty liquorice, it is silky smooth and elegant. Sausages cooked in wine, Blanquette de Veal, roasted poultry, charcuterie platter, and light pasta are some great dishes to enjoy with this Beaujolais.
Domaine de la Madone, located in the Beaujolais Cru of Fleurie, is owned and run by Arnaud Despres. Arnaud is the 6th generation of his family to farm these famous hillside vineyards that take their name from the chapel which sits on top of the hill above the village of Fleurie. Arnaud’s 17 hectares, which sit on pink granite, enjoy some of the best growing conditions in the area and are blessed with exceptional amounts of sunlight - perfect for cultivating the Gamay grape.
