Named after the French children's game “le saute-mouton”—a playful leapfrog-like pastime—this wine evokes both the spirited energy and elevated terrain of its Saint-Péray origins.
This Saute-Mouton is a reflection of the natural winemaking movement in the Rhône Valley, combining a distinctive sense of place with Domaine de Lorient's commitment to simple, hands-on, and sustainable methods.
Vibrant and distinctive, this white wine opens with bright, sweet-edged aromas of orange marmalade and fresh ginger. Medium-bodied on the palate, it carries a lively tension and a subtle herbaceous character that distinguishes it from the typically richer, Roussanne-led blends of the region.
With its vibrant aromatics and edgy freshness, it makes for a versatile pairing with grilled seafood, poultry dishes such as roast chicken or guinea fowl with tarragon or thyme, vegetable dishes, Asian-inspired fare, and semi-hard or aged cheeses.
Perched on the granite slopes of Saint-Péray, Domaine de Lorient is lovingly led by the husband-and-wife team, Laure Colombo and Dimitri Roulleau-Gallais. Guided by a biodynamic philosophy rooted in minimal intervention, they allow the natural rhythms of the land to shape the expression of their wines. Their holistic approach extends beyond the vineyard to encompass orchards, olive groves, wild foraging, and integrated livestock, embodying a deep commitment to sustainability and artisanal craftsmanship, merging winery and farm.
