I first discovered this elegant wine at the En Primeur tastings in January 2020 — remember those heady days? All optimism and no masks. I was stopped in my tracks by this charming, fruit forward but complex wine.
La Framboisière means 'raspberry plantation' in French, and every time I taste the wine, the raspberry aromas, combined with that wonderful earthy structure, and a hint of oak you find in well-made red burgundy makes me smile and want to taste it again. The wine will be drinking brilliantly now, and can also be kept in the cellar for some time.
Such finesse and elegance is unusual in Mercurey, snap this up its incredible!
La Framboisière has been one of Domaine Faiveley’s monopoles since 1933 and produces very distinctive wines: intense red fruit aromas and a pleasant minerality. Raspberries with deeper notes of chocolaty plum abound here. Part whole bunch fermentation has brought out an ample, fleshy fruitiness with a gentle touch of oak.
This pleasurable wine pairs well with grilled or roasted poultry, delicate game dishes, savoury mushroom creations, and soft or semi-hard cheeses such as Brie or Comté.
Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is a historic and highly regarded wine producer located in the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy’s renowned Côte de Nuits subregion. As one of the region’s most prominent estates, it remains family-owned and is now guided by the seventh generation of the Faiveley family, led by Erwan Faiveley alongside his sister, Eve.
