Elegant timorasso wines at this price are a rarity, and I am so excited to be able to offer Carlo Manera's wonderful wine, La Battistina.

Timorasso is a lesser known white grape found in part of Piemonte that is experiencing a resurgence in interest. Vines were planted at La Battistina in 2021 and after a small first vintage last year, Whitfield Wines is excited to now have some of the 2024 to sell in the UK. It's the 'second' wine of the estate, hence the name.

The Timorasso vines are cultivated in a small plot at La Battistina Estate with north-easterly exposure. After harvesting the grapes are destemmed and crushed and the juice fermented for about two weeks in stainless steel vats. It also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine stays on fine lees in stainless steel for about 10 months prior to bottling.

Ripe stone fruit aromas leading to a textured palate with citrus and apricot characters alongside nutty, mineral notes and bright acidity. The finish is long, savoury and lightly saline.

Araldica is Piemonte's most forward-thinking co-operative, situated in Castel Boglione, in the heart of Barbera d'Asti territory. Here they work with 230 grower members to source quality grapes from around 690ha of vineyards. Many of their members joined the co-operative in the 1950s and have a long and loyal relationhip with the winery. They produce wines from Piemonte's main DOC / DOCG regions - predominantly Barbera, Gavi and Moscato, but also including Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero Arneis.

Founded in 1954 by Livio Manera, father of the current Managing Director and winemaker Claudio Manera, Araldica has developed over the past 60+ years to become a major winemaking force in Piemonte, supplying wines across the globe. Claudio's wife Lella heads up quality control at Araldica, where she is responsible for the blending and approval of all wines.
