When wine professionals are asked for a serious Pinot Grigio, this bottle is a frequent recommendation. Unlike most examples of the grape variety, it features coppery-rosy hues—a hallmark of the traditional ramato style unique to Friuli. Made from estate-grown grapes on hillside vineyards in the premium Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC, it comes from one of the region’s benchmark producers, known for combining tradition with precision.
Classic Friulian ‘ramato’ style, with coppery-rosy hues rare in Italian whites, there is a harmonious blend of fruit, floral, and mineral notes. The nose is fragrant and refined, revealing lusciously ripe apricot, juicy peach, crisp pear, delicate orange blossom, aromatic jasmine, buttery honeyed pastry, and a touch of subtle spice. Full-bodied yet crisp, refreshing white fruits of melon, apple, lychee, papaya, and nashi pear is lifted with bright citrus and fine minerality, leading to a long, tangy finish.
Founded in the 1950s by Livio Felluga, the estate lies in Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s premium Colli Orientali. Emerging from the hardship of two world wars, Livio set out to revive the region’s vineyards and showcase the purity of its terroir. A pioneer of hillside viticulture and single-varietal whites, he embraced modern techniques and famously mapped his vineyards—seen on his labels.
The estate remains family-run, led by Livio’s four children—Andrea, Maurizio, Elda, and Filippo—with active involvement from the grandchildren. It’s celebrated for its signature Pinot Grigio, Friulano, and the flagship Terre Alteblend.
