"Vertente," meaning "hillside," this is an elegant and complex red capturing the essence of the Douro Valley's rugged landscape and unique terroir. Reflecting the region's renowned heritage of both Port and table wines, it strikes a perfect balance between richness and freshness.
Originally known for their Port production, the Niepoort family later expanded into winemaking, and this wine showcases the best of their estate's traditions and the distinctive character of its terroir. Begin the night with this wine, before retiring with their Port.
This medium-bodied wine is vibrant, with rich notes of dark berries and spices, complemented by earthy mineral undertones. Layers of red fruit, herbs, and subtle oak unfold on the palate, supported by balanced acidity and smooth tannins.
Founded in 1842 by Dutch merchant Eduard Kebe, the company soon became a joint venture with Francois Marius Niepoort, who later took full control. Francois passed the business to his son, Eduard Niepoort, who focused on producing fine Port wines. By the time the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort, took the reins, the portfolio had expanded to include dry table wines crafted from native Portuguese grape varieties.
Today, Dirk Niepoort and the sixth generation—Daniel, Marco, and Ana Niepoort—work together to innovate and grow the family business.
