Truly a baby Lynch-Bages (well, the third wine) it is a wonder that this member of the Lynch-Bages Family is not more widely lauded. That is to say it is pretty much a perfect expression of Pauillac — impressive and rich, all autumn, cedar and dark berries. It was first created in 2009 and is made entirely from the fruit of the property. The wine comes from the younger vines and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and it is a wonderful introduction to the property; and while clearly Pauillac, the young fruit character gives a forward, supple style that delivers delicious early drinking. The price is not big and rich, however, I don't know anywhere this wine is available for £37…
A deep ruby red with vibrant purple hues, this wine is bold and rich, showcasing dark fruit flavours of cassis, blackcurrant, and plum, with lots of cedar and tobacco notes. It pairs beautifully with classic French cuisine, especially grilled or roasted red meats, game, and hard cheeses like Comté and aged Gouda.
Château Lynch-Bages traces its roots to the 18th century and was acquired by the Cazes family in 1939. Under the Cazes family’s stewardship, the estate reached new heights, and today, Jean-Michel Cazes continues to craft wines that embody the finest expression of Pauillac’s renowned terroir. The estate is often described as one of the “super seconds”, a term used for Fifth Growth estates that perform at a level comparable to higher-classified estates.
