Reverdito, Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Simane’, 2022

Piedmont, Italy

£117.00

This red wine could be sold as Barolo San Giacomo, but the producer considers the soil to be too heavily clay to produce perfect Barolo. How lucky we are as it would be triple the price.

The wine has deep, delicious red fruit notes you expect from the grape variety, as well as hints of liquorice and tobacco. These are soft wines, light in body, but still with plenty of backbone and authority. You will love them, and they are drinking now.

Nebbiolo’s natural acidity and tannic structure means it pairs beautifully with rich foods such as truffle dishes, game meats, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses; foods which are typical of the Piedmont region.

The Reverdito family has a long history with land in La Morra, located in the heart of Barolo. Before venturing into winemaking, the Reverdito’s were farmers, cultivating grapes and selling them to other producers. In 2000, Michele Reverdito shifted the family focus towards wine production of their own, forming their own winery.

In recent years, the estate has increased little by little as Michele and his sister, Sabina Reverdito, take advantage of their ‘young vigneron’ status to plant/acquire more land. They have bought (respectively) 0.36 hectares and 0.125 hectares of the La Serra vineyard in La Morra, immediately below the famous Roberto Voerzio’s vines where there are lots of south facing vineyards. The first vintage was in 2000. Now the family have 20 hectares of vineyards, at altitudes of between 300 and 420 metres. The age of the vines ranges between six and thirty years.
