Liberty Wines recently published their Premium On-Trade Wine Report identifying a significant change in how Britons drink wine. In 2019, 18% of wine was consumed in restaurants, bars and hotels; by 2024, that had fallen to 13%. In short, more of the wine we drink is now being enjoyed at home.
While we may be drinking more of our wine at home, we have not lost our appetite for quality. The report finds that consumers remain prepared to spend on better bottles and are increasingly confident exploring less familiar regions - Alto Adige, anyone? - and more esoteric grape varieties.
