November 2022 - New Wines for Winter & Christmas holidays
It's exciting to be able to write about some new wines added to the list at Whitfield Wines. Sticking to my brief, almost all are from France and Italy, with only two exceptions, a brilliant Touriga Nacional, red wine from Portugal and an extraordinarily good Rhône style red from the team at Massaya in Lebanon.
For Whitfield Wines whites, check out my new Soave, a brilliant house white Burgundy from Domaine Pouilly, a lesser know white from the Loire valley called Domaine Haut Bourg - Grolleau Gris.
We have a very special white from Auxey Duresses, and some incredible Viognier from Pierre Jean Villa in Rhône, grown right next to the Condrieu vineyards, without the premium price.
For the special time of year I have added some red Burgundies to my list. I don't ever pretend to have a comprehensive list of wines from the region, but I do have great access to wines that predominantly go on restaurant wine lists, and hence offer drinkability and accessible pricing. All the reds from Burgundy feature on great lists around London.
A single vineyard wine from Côtes des Nuits, a gorgeous red from Morey St Denis, lead the new list, and I finally have a Bourgogne Rouge that I am super happy to show, the Charles van Canneyt 2017.
Stop the Press!! - for the wines from Castello Argiano and the Sesti family, I now have the Rosso di Montalcino on the list, and the Brunello Di Montalcino 2015 which is the star of the show.
Two grand reds from Bordeaux to splash out on this month too - check our the Leoville Barton 2012 and Chateau Siran 2017 from Margaux.
Do come and taste some wines this Wednesday in West London!
