Sangiovese ‘Brio’, Castello Romitorio, IGT Toscana 2022

This wine is made a stone's throw from Montalcino and as a non classified Rosso, it offers incredible value. A classic house wine from Whitfield Wines. Incredibly drinkable, and a brilliant price from a well known and grand producer.

Brio is made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the estate vineyards on the gently sloping hills of Scansano, fully expressing the freshness of this grape variety. The combination of altitude, south-westerly exposure, and rich volcanic soils in Scansano create one of Italy’s most unique microclimates.  Dense ruby red in colour with fragrant floral aromas, notes of red berries and cherries, and a layer of aromatic herbs.  The medium bodied palate is refined and balanced, with well integrated savouriness and soft tannins carrying through to the long and fruity finish.

Castello Romitorio is situated in a wild part of Montalcino with a microclimate of less sunny slopes and cooler average temperatures than the rest of the region.  The vineyards circle the Castle, on slopes which run parallel to the slopes of Montalcino.
