Château Sigalas Rabaud 'Lieutenant de Sigalas' Sauternes 2013
2013 was such a great year in Sauternes and this is so reasonably priced for its quality that I thought I should let you know about it. And it is in halves of course, much easier, and you can always open a second!
The estate has been in the Sigalas family since 1863 and through six generations. It is perfectly situated on a small hill overlooking Château d’Yquem, just 500 metres away. With just fourteen hectares, it is the smallest of all the premier cru classé Sauternes’ properties. Vineyard plantings consist of 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon.
The current generation, Laure de Lambert Compeyrot and her son, Jean Compeyrot, have great drive and determination to promote these special wines to a new audience. The second wine ‘Lieutenant de Sigalas’ is delightful, with a lovely floral character and rich, honeyed fruit.
