Domaine Cyril Testut Chablis Rive Droite, 2020

This domain was created in 1967 by Philippe Testut, the founder of “Château Grenouille.” In 1998, the 13 hectares of vineyards were taken over by his son, Cyril. Occupying the historic heartland of vineyards initially farmed by Cistercian monks, Domaine Testut and its vineyards lie on some of the finest Kimmeridgian limestone soils. This terroir contributes to the classic, minerally crisp flavours of the wines.

Squeezed between the Grand Cru Blanchot and the 1er Cru of Montée de Tonnerre, the land is arguably the finest Chablis AC vineyard in the region. The small parcel of the famous Grand Cru Grenouilles returned to the Testut family only a few years ago. Back in the seventies, the vineyards were leased, due to internal family squabbles, and were held by William Fèvre for 30 years. It is now back in the hands of one of Chablis’ finest domaines.

Robert Parker described the terroir as “among the very best of the region, offering great style and concentration without sacrificing their richness and depth, and while remain extremely well balanced and filled with finesse.”

Wonderful elegant, complex, Chablis at a good price.  Expect the 2020 to increase in price.
